Nighttime In Kansas: No Shame In Letting Go EP Review

Nighttime In Kansas, the nicest band in Ottawa, probably the most talented group of individuals that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting has finished production on their second EP which is entitled No Shame In Letting Go. The 4 song masterpiece is beautifully written. Those who love their first EP, Solstice, will definitely enjoy No Shame In Letting Go. It will be released on April 6th so definitely go and check it out!

Song 1: Microdot

The EP leads off with the straight banger Microdot. A fast-paced exciting catchy piece that starts the album off with a bang. John, the drummer, his voice is perfect for the song and the vocal melody is just straight up perfection in my opinion. It melds beautifully with the instrumentation.

Song 2: 416

This song is slow and smooth but not boring at all. The song gives off a slight jazz vibe and has a smooth sexy sax solo in it that caught me off guard at first but really adds a nice layer to the song. The little synth solo also adds something nice a new to the band's sound.

9/10

Song 3: More Than Me

This song is another slow but interesting song. The drums kept pulling me in and the bassline adds a nice layer to the plucky guitar part. The boys have come a long way in the last 2 years and their song crafting has improved a lot.

9.5/10

Song 4: No Shame In Letting Go

The title track is going to make any fan of 80's New Wave or Synth Rock an instant fan of the band. The opening riff is so damn catchy and every time I hear it my head unintentionally starts to move along with the beat and I start to hum along. This song is as close to perfection as I've ever heard a song get. Towards the end, the fake build ups pull you in then throw you back and pull you back in again. I think this is the highest rated song ever on an Ottawa Sound album review!

9.9/10

Overall

I have absolutely fallen in love with this EP and can't get enough of it. I can't wait to hear the boys play this live and I'm super excited for the rest of you to hear it!

We rate the overall EP a 37.4/40

The album comes out on April 6th and the title track, No Shame In Letting Go, is available now on Spotify, and Bandcamp! Pre-orders of the EP are also available on iTunes!
