Hey Ottawa Sound readers! I have some big news to announce!

For those of you that have been following the blog since it's inception I would like to say a big thank you. I know that the blog has been inactive for a few weeks and there is a reason for it. As some of you are aware The Ottawa Sound was partnered with Hex Entertainment in a way. What we did for eachother was just promote our articles and interviews; now the big news that I have surrounding the blog is that The Ottawa Sound, UDS Music Services and Hex Entertainment are now all one company.

Carina from Hex decided to leave the company because she was too busy with her full time job and Shauna asked me if I could help out. Shauna, Carina and I had started UDS as a way to help local artists and producers get their music on iTunes, register it with government and a whole bunch of other services. With Carina's departure from both UDS and Hex, Shauna  and I decided to merge the three separate companies into one.

Hex will keep its name and so will The Ottawa Sound Blog however, UDS will now be called The Ottawa Sound:A La Carte. UDS will be moving from it's website to The Ottawa Sound's and will be featured as just a page on The Ottawa Sound.

Shauna and I would also like to inform everyone that Karri (a featured writer from The Ottawa Sound) will be joining the management team of The Ottawa Sound and will also be hosting a very exciting new venture with Shauna and I coming up in July!

Why Don't Big Touring Acts Come To Ottawa?

If you live in Ottawa you are no doubt used to having your favourite acts skip our beautiful city on their tours, and you may have asked yourself, why? Why won't they come and play here? There isn't any single correct answer to that question. Part of it has to do with location; it also has to do with our lack of large venues, and believe it or not, we're viewed as a small market. The reason location plays a factor in our little problem is this, we're only four hours away from Toronto and two hours away from Montreal. Many acts don't want to spend the extra money on a venue in Ottawa if people can just use a car, train or plane to get to Montreal or Toronto in a half decent amount of time. Ottawa is also lacking in one very important thing when it comes to music: venues. For a band like Metallica, ACDC, or a giant act like Beyonce or Katy Perry to come to a town, they need to have a venue big enough to hold a few hundred to a few thousand people. Could you picture AC
