Album Cover of "Nothing Here is Permanent"

Local band Bearings released their 3rd EP on September 8th, 2017. The 5 song album features the song "North Hansen" which has become one of their most popular songs to date. The band is also touring with the band State Champs throughout the US this month.

You can find Petrichor on iTunes, Spotify and on the band's own website.

QUICK REVIEW:

  1. PETRICHOR:
    1. The title track of the EP eases you into the rest of the album. Featuring the usual magnificent musicianship of the band it tells a story of love and loss, which seems to be a recurring theme in the EP. The songwriting is strong (which is nothing new from Bearings)
    2. Rating: 8/10
  2. SPENT
    1. The second song on the EP starts off slow but builds into a strong chorus, the build ups with sudden stops make it quite a ride to listen to and keep you engaged and hoping for the climax of the song to arrive. Once again dealing with feelings of losing love
    2. Rating: 8.5/10
  3. LETTERS HOME
    1. This one is probably one of my favourite songs on the album. The production was amazing and you can hear every aspect of the band. You can hear the bass merging beautifully with the guitar riffs, the drums match perfectly with the bassline and vocal melody. The background vocals that say "oh uh uh ohh" add a whole new layer to the song.
    2. Rating 8/10
  4. North Hansen
    1. This song is an awesome addition to the album. The song has quickly become one of Bearings' most popular songs. It tells a story of dealing with the loss of a loved one to cancer and how hard it is to watch them "fade away" with the severe effects of the illness. It also talks about the weird transition from kid to adult and how you sometimes feel scared and alone in this big scary world. Once again the band hits you with their masterful songwriting and the amazing guitar solo towards the end merges beautifully with the rest of the song. This is honestly one of my favourite songs of all time.
    2. 9.5/10
  5. MAKESHIFT
    1. The 5th and final song on the album is a rollercoaster of transitions of speed and emotion. A great track to end with it once again talks about dealing with love and loss. Ryan's backing vocals work well in a call and response with Doug's at the beginning of the song. The production on this song is once again amazing and the effects work well with the songwriting.
    2. Rating: 8/10
  6. OVERALL:
    1. This has quickly become one of my favourite albums to listen to, and it's only been out for 24 hours. I am honestly in love with this EP!
    2. Rating: 42/50
